Josh Warrington overcame plenty of adversity to become world champion again.

Eddie Hearn has heaped praise on Josh Warrington following his weekend win over Kiko Martinez.

Warrington became world champion for a second time with a stoppage over the veteran Spaniard, and his victory was considered even more impressive due to injuries suffered in the fight.

In the contest’s aftermath, it was revealed that the Leeds fight had endured both a broken jaw and hand on his way to registering the win.

With his career on the line following a torrid 2021, Warrington has placed himself in the mix for further big fights, and Hearn, Warrington’s promoter, was pleased with his man’s performance.

“It was one of his best career performances,” said Hearn when speaking on The DAZN Boxing Show.

“Kiko broke Josh’s jaw like a minute before Josh Warrington stopped him. He knew his jaw was broken and he was like ‘I’ve got to take him out now.’ He wouldn’t have been able to win that fight over 12 rounds with those injuries. It was a massive win for him.”

On what comes next for Warrington, Hearn added, “Josh has wanted a big away day for some time, but he’s not going to be ready to box until October or November.

"He wants [Emanuel] Navarette in America. An away day trip is what his fans would love. You seen the scenes on Saturday. He has the most unbelievable fanbase and they would all travel to Vegas or New York.”
