Eddie Hearn reflected on an ‘incredible’ weekend that saw Kid Galahad and Terri Harper suffer upset defeats.
Galahad was beaten by Kiko Martinez as the 35-year-old Spaniard again became a world champion, this time at featherweight. Earlier on the card, Harper lost to American challenger Alycia Baumgardner.
“Well I mean it's an amazing show,” Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show. “On paper, it looks like a standard homecoming defence for Kid Galahad. And it looks like a dangerous comeback for Terri Harper. But a lot of people expected her to come through Alycia Baumgardener and those guys and girls just tore up the script. “
The Matchroom promoter suggested Baumgardner had profited because of Harper’s inaction.
“Alycia probably preyed on a little bit of the lack of competence of Terri Harper, being out of the ring for a year, who had operations. She was full of competence and full of fire. And I thought it was an amazing performance from her,” he said, before moving onto Galahad’s loss.
“And then you got Kiko Martinez, who was getting bashed up in the fire, four rounds down, hadn't won a round, rocked in the first round, and then just pulled a right hand from the gods to make history. And it was just such a dramatic fight really, but really the Kid Galahad one was incredible.”
