Eddie Hearn has revealed the obstacles in making a rematch between Dmitry Bivol and Canelo Alvarez.
Earlier this year, Bivol caused a sensational upset when he dominated the Mexican icon to retain his WBA light-heavyweight crown. Canelo has made it clear that he wants to settle the score somewhere down the line.
First for Canelo is a trilogy meeting with Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17th and that’s where his immediate focus is currently located.
If successful against the Kazakh legend, Canelo is likely to switch his attention back to Bivol, but Eddie Hearn, the promoter of both fighters, claims there’s a long way to go before striking a deal.
“The fact is, to fight Canelo Alvarez, Bivol might have to fight [Joshua] Buatsi and Zurdo [Ramirez], said Hearn when speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show. “That fight’s not a definite because we can’t just wait until May. It’s impossible and there’s so much risk in those fights.
“Hopefully, Canelo and ‘GGG’ have a tremendous fight in September and if Canelo wins, he’ll go and look for that rematch, but Bivol is going to be fighting too. Also, don’t forget, Bivol also wants the Beterbiev fight.”
Eddie Hearn discusses a host of subjects on The DAZN Boxing Show with the full interview to be broadcast on DAZN.
