Eddie Hearn names former world champion as potential Conor Benn comeback opponent

Conor Benn could fight later this year.

Eddie Hearn believes former IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook could be a potential opponent for Conor Benn when he makes his in-ring comeback later this year.

After being cleared by UKAD for two failed drugs tests last October, plans are now being put in place for Benn to fight at some point before the end of 2023.

Since the news became official about Benn being free to fight, a number of big names have put themselves forward including Brook who could be an option according to Hearn.

"I want it to be in Britain. I want him to get a British Boxing Board of Control Licence and we will go through that process," Hearn told Betfred

"Considering what Conor’s been through, I believe [Tony Sims] would like him to have a fight to get back into things and then have him go again quickly after.

"Conor wants the biggest fight possible. He’s sunk a fortune into clearing his name, he wants to fight ASAP and he wants the biggest fight out there.

“I think Kell Brook is the fight. Whether that’s straight away or whether that’s a couple of months later, we will have to wait and see. He could fight in September and go again in December against Kell Brook. I like the idea of that fight. It’s a crossroads fight. It’s a 50-50 fight.

“Conor’s obviously a welterweight who was going to fight a middleweight, so he has to bring himself back to 147Ibs if he wants to fight there.

"I’m not sure how easy that’s going to be and it’s certainly not possible for September or October. Kell Brook isn’t making 147lbs in a million years, so maybe this fight could happen at 152lbs, 153lbs or 154lbs. It would be a great fight and I can’t wait to see Conor back.”
