Eddie Hearn has expressed his desire to see Anthony Joshua return to the ring this summer and face Dillian Whyte.
Joshua made his return to the ring in April following a decent rest after losing a second fight to Oleksandr Usyk last August. Joshua was victorious on points, but it wasn’t a performance that pleased many.
Since the Franklin fight, Joshua continues to be linked to a fight with Deontay Wilder at the end of the year, but his promoter is eager for a fight with Whyte to be made before taking on Wilder.
The pair met in 2015 with British honours on the line but with both men now operating at a higher level, Hearn believes it’s the fight to make.
“We all believe he needs that fight in August and more time with [trainer] Derrick James, more preparation for Deontay Wilder, and then that's it,” said Hearn when speaking with Stamina for Sale.
“I like the Dillian Whyte fight [for Joshua]. Whether he gets the Wilder fight done or not, I like that fight. I think it's a fight that AJ will get up for. I think it's a fight that he can have some spite for, and it's a fight that is dangerous.”
