Eddie Hearn has welcomed the idea of promoting a rematch between Billy Joe Saunders and John Ryder.
Inactive since losing to Canelo Alvarez in May 2021, Saunders is in discussions to end his hiatus and make a return to boxing after two years out of the ring following the sole defeat of his illustrious career.
In 2013, when both were at British level, Saunders and Ryder participated in a well-fought encounter that was.
Narrowly won by Saunders. Since that night, both men have enjoyed successes at the highest level of the sport, and both have shared the ring with Canelo after Ryder faced him earlier this year. Hearn believes a sequel to Saunders vs. Ryder could be made.
“It’s two great British super middleweights,” said Hearn when talking to IFLTV on a possible second meeting between the pair.
“We’ll see what weight Billy comes back at in December, it looks like, but with no belts on the line, does it really matter if they fight at 170 or 171?”
“Who cares? We just want to see a good fight.”
