Terence Crawford has been linked to numerous high-profile fights since his dominant win over Errol Spence last month.
Crawford’s victory has elevated the Nebraska man to the top of boxing’s pound-for-pound rankings and there’s a number of interesting bouts that will go a long way to keeping him there.
One of those names is Canelo Alvarez and although Crawford would need to make a big leap to super-middleweight, the speculation won’t go away.
Canelo will welcome Jermell Charlo, a super-welterweight, to 168lbs in September, but Eddie Hearn, the former promoter of Canelo, believes Crawford is too small to make the jump.
“He [Canelo] would never come below 168lbs so it would have to be at 168, and I don’t think Crawford would go to 168, and I don’t think he could compete with Canelo,” said Hearn when speaking to ESBR Boxing.
“You’ve got to remember, Canelo is going to come in at 180. It would be a mismatch in size. He’s just too big for Terence Crawford.”
On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Crawford admitted he would be willing to move to super-middlweight, "I would definitely have to gain weight. I just believe in my abilities."
