Eddie Hearn has revealed that Dillian Whyte is the ‘frontrunner’ to face Anthony Joshua next with a summer date likely.
Joshua had his first outing of 2023 earlier this month when he registered his first win since 2020 with a dominant points victory over a stubborn Jermaine Franklin, a fighter who Whyte beat last year.
Joshua and Whyte have plenty of history with the amateur rivals fighting as professionals in 2015 in a contest that was won by Joshua.
Since that fight, Whyte has been chasing a rematch, but his long wait may now be over with Hearn, the promoter of both men, claiming that Whyte is the favourite to be in the opposite corner when Joshua returns later this year.
“I think that’s the frontrunner,” said Hearn when appearing on The Chris Mannix Podcast when asked if Whyte was in the frame for Joshua.
“If a deal can be reached with Dillian Whyte, I think that’d be a smart fight for both.”
