Eddie Hearn wants to make a fight with Devin Haney and JoJo Diaz, with both fighters appearing keen on the clash.
Hearn and Haney have been planning for the 22-year-old WBC champion to fight in December after last appearing in the ring in May against Jorge Linares.
He had previously been wanting to fight WBC mandatory Ryan Garcia, who appeared to duck the opportunity before taking a break from the sport, and Garcia and Diaz were then on course to meet to decide the mandatory designation. However Garcia has since pulled out of that fight due to a wrist injury, meaning Diaz is the logical choice for Haney.
Speaking on DAZN on Saturday night in an appearance alongside Haney, Hearn said he would offer Diaz the same money to face the current champion as he would have made against Garcia.
A potential December 4 date could see the pair meet, with Hearn saying: “You’re gonna look real bad if you don’t accept this offer. The only way you wouldn’t do it is if you don’t believe you would beat him.”
On Twitter, Diaz replied that: “Imma fight Devin Haney in December y’all I promise. Like Ryan Garcia, he hasn’t been tested and I’ll give Devin his first L…and for Ryan Garcia hope you recover quick. Once I take out Devin I’m coming after you next!”
