Just because differences in opinion between Canelo Alvarez and Turki Alalshikh led to the latter abandoning the idea of Alvarez taking on Terence Crawford, Eddie Hearn believes the two power players in boxing will eventually work together.
"Those two, in my opinion at some point, will work together," Hearn said in a sitdown interview on Matchroom Boxing's YouTube page. "But only in the fights that His Excellency deems to be the mega fights.
"You got two very powerful people there," Hearn continued. "You got one guy in Canelo Alvarez who likes to make his own decisions, do his own thing in his own time.
"And you've got another player in His Excellency that just wants to make the biggest fights now. Not in three months, no marination. Now. And obviously he'll be as frustrated as some fight fans if certain fights don't get made. His mission is to make sure they do."
Alalshikh put Hearn on a mission last week following Alvarez's New York City press conference to build up his September 14 fight with Edgar Berlanga, live on DAZN.
"He said to me, 'I want to make Canelo-Crawford. Go and speak to Saul, let's make this fight,'" Hearn revealed. "I said 'OK.' I reached out to Saul.
"Saul just said 'Look, I'm focused on this fight. I won't talk about another fight till after this fight.'"
That led to Alalshikh taking to his social media the following day and stating "I decided to disregard the Canelo fight, as I don’t want it anymore. Instead, I will be focusing for the US market with bigger fights, especially for the legend Crawford."
As Hearn views it, the Matchroom Boxing promoter can understand both sides of the fallout.
"You have to understand the way that [Alalshikh] operates and the way that they do business is incredible," Hearn said. "It's 'This is what we want to do, this is massive, let's get it done.'
"And for one reason or another, Canelo didn't want to have those conversations. And then it's the frustrations of 'Why not? We're here, we can make the deal now. You come to the hotel now and we'll get a deal done tonight.'
Hearn added: "It's the most amazing way to operate and it's so refreshing for boxing but it wasn't the way that Canelo wanted to do that deal. He wanted to wait till after the Berlanga fight, which frustratingly for His Excellency kills the Crawford [vs. Canelo] fight for February because he wants to get that fight made now."
