Eddie Hearn provides major update on Canelo Alvarez next fight

Eddie Hearn provides major update on Canelo Alvarez next fightEd Mullholland/Matchroom

Canelo Alvarez will defend his status as undisputed super-middleweight ruler against Britain’s John Ryder in May.

That’s the opinion of Eddie Hearn, the man who has pretty much guided the career of the Islington man, and is set to give Ryder the biggest opportunity of his career against the outstanding Mexican.

Canelo returned to winning ways last September with victory against Gennadiy Golovkin after he had lost to Dmitry Bivol the previous May.

Revenge against the reigning light-heavyweight champion is still a major priority, but Hearn believes that fight won’t be next as he offered his verdict on the next move for Canelo.

“Canelo really wants to fight in Mexico,” said Hearn when speaking with Boxing Scene.

“Again, every time you make that move you have to unfortunately take it on the chin that you’re gonna make a lot less money.

“I think the fight will be in the United States or in Mexico and I think it’ll be John Ryder. You know, he’s the mandatory. It’s not confirmed, but you know, I feel like that will be the next fight.”
