Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Conor Benn will make his long-awaited return to the ring in June with an opponent set to be announced in the coming weeks.
The rising welterweight star has been inactive for almost a year since defeating South Africa’s Chris van Heerden last April, but his promoter is hinting at a huge event for the undefeated star.
Benn had been slated to face Chris Eubank Jr last October but issues arising from an adverse finding in a drugs test forced a late cancellation of the bout.
Benn has spent the last few months fighting to prove his innocence, and with that battle still going on, Hearn is in the process of establishing the next move for his fighter.
“Love him, hate him, write him off, whatever you wanna do. I don’t care. I just wanna see him fight again,” said Hearn when speaking to IFL TV.
“We will be dropping big fight news in a big fight for Conor Benn, he’ll be fighting in June. His next fight will not be in Britain and that will be announced in due course.
“Conor Benn’s next fight, the whole world’s gonna watch it. It’s gonna be a massive fight and we’re close now to agreeing that fight and signing the contract."
