Katie Taylor looks set to face Amanda Serrano for a second time, but it doesn't like the atmospheric Croke Park in Dublin will host the event.
Eddie Hearn, Taylor’s promoter, had been eager to secure Taylor the grandest homecoming possible but the cost of hiring the stadium has proved to be a major stumbling block with alternative venues being considered.
Last April, Taylor and Serrano delivered an instant classic as both went all out to grab the win. It was Taylor who secured victory, and she’s set to have home advantage in the rematch.
Serrano faces Erika Cruz this Saturday night, live on DAZN, and if she emerges victorious, all eyes will switch to Taylor vs. Serrano 2.
"The cost of hire, the cost of everything involved with the event is three times nearly more than staging it at Wembley Stadium. It's unbelievable," said Hearn when speaking on The MMA Hour.
"It's a business. Ultimately, Katie Taylor has her financial demands for this fight. So does Amanda Serrano and we want to make sure we deliver on that.
"We're so far out on the possibility with the cost of running that show and we're out of time in terms of delivering that date to the broadcaster so we've got to move.
"I promised Katie Taylor would be in Ireland for her next fight. It will be the most sensational atmosphere wherever we are, but we'll see what happens then."
