Victory for Shakur Stevenson on October 12 will be the platform for a huge fight against William Zepeda next year.
Stevenson meets Cordina later this year as he looks to defend his world lightweight title against the highly skilled Welshman.
Stevenson recently signed a promotional deal with Matchroom and his next two fights, as long as he keeps winning, are set to be Cordina and Zepeda.
Eddie Hearn is delighted to have the Newark fighter join his thriving stable, and he’s spoken about what the future holds for his latest acquisition.
“The first step of the plan is Joe Cordina, on October 12, and if he’s victorious there, Zepeda in February, and then we’ll go from there,” said Hearn when speaking to BoxingScene.
“It’s a two-fight deal for us to get our teeth into the relationship; to show Shakur what we can do, and to build his profile into, probably, a Gervonta Davis fight next summer if he keeps winning.”
