Edgar Berlanga reveals why fight with super middleweight star fell throughDAZN
Edgar Berlanga returns to action later this month.

After a 2023 which saw just one fight, Edgar Berlanga is hoping for regular in-ring appearances in 2024.

This begins on February 24 when he takes on the undefeated Padraig McCrory in Florida live on DAZN

Berlanga last fought in June 2023 when he beat Jason Quigley and this win had seemingly set up a showdown with hard-hitting Mexican Jaime Munguia.

However, problems during negotiations kept Berlanga sidelined for the rest of the year, and in an interview with The DAZN Boxing Show, the American explained the reason behind the failed attempts to make a fight with Munguia.

"The only reason why it took so long to find an opponent is because we were trying to lock in the Munguia fight," Berlanga said.

"We kept going back and forth with Matchroom and the numbers, the numbers did not make sense for us.

"The cheque was too small for a fight of that magnitude, and I wasn’t feeling it."

Munguia is also looking to make significant progress in the super middleweight division after he stopped John Ryder in the ninth round of their contest last month, and has since been linked with a fight against undisputed 168lb champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Live on DAZN: Watch Curiel vs. Nontshinga live on DAZN on Feb 16.
