Edgar Berlanga hit out at Billy Joe Saunders for not coming out to compete in the ninth round against Canelo Alvarez.
The eighth round saw Saunders suffer fractured orbital bones that meant trainer Mark Tibbs called the fight off, and Canelo claimed the WBO belt in addition to the WBA and WBC titles he brought into the match-up.
Saunders has previously hit out at fighters such as Daniel Dubois, who took a knee when he suffered a similar injury, and Dubois, Chris Eubank Jr., and other fighters have all had their say on the matter.
Berlanga also gave his opinion, as he told Little Giant Boxing’s Constantino Garcia, as reported by BoxingScene.com.
“P—. That was bad, Even if you were losing the fight at least go out with a bang,” Berlanga said.
“You’re in front of 73,000 people. It’s sad that it had to end like that. It is what it is.”
“I don’t agree with it,” continued Berlanga. “There’s girls out there, guys out there that go out with their eyes (swollen shut), I don’t understand it, man. It’s bad for business.”
