Whenever a fighter finds themselves on the wrong end of a result, they immediately go seaching for reasons as to why they lost a particular contest.
Sometimes this can lead to crazy excuses for a loss, but for Errol Spence Jr., he was happy to highlight the flaws within his strategy after being stopped by Terence Crawford on Saturday night.
Spence was knocked down three times by Crawford when they met for the undisputed welterweight title in Las Vegas before the fight was stopped in ninth, and Spence highlighted that it was his timing which made him such an easy target for his Omaha rival.
“I got a feel for his power probably like first, second round,” Spence said at the post-fight press conference.
“You know, he’s a strong dude, but you know, everybody at this top level have some type of power. But I think because my timing was off he was catching me in between shots."
Spence is expected to activate a rematch clause, but it is still unknown as to which fight a second meeting with Crawford would be contested at with welterweight and light middleweight being the frontrunners.
