Yordenis Ugas’ trainer does not believe that Errol Spence Jr. poses the same threat after his car accident.
The IBF and WBC welterweight champion suffered serious injuries in the incident back in 2019 and has had to have surgery on a torn left retina, which cost him a fight with Manny Pacquiao last year.
Instead Ugas stepped up to defeat the Filipino senator and now the WBA champion will fight Spence on April 16th.
Spence has fought since the crash when he beat Danny Garcia over 12 rounds, but Salas is unconvinced that he is back to his best, having not fought in 16 months since that victory.
“I can tell you one thing very clear,” Salas said, reported BoxingScene.com.
“This is no secret to anyone. I saw the Errol Spence [that] fought with Shawn Porter. And I saw the Errol Spence [that] fought with Danny Garcia. So, in this two between, they have one situation – the accident.
“The same guy, Errol Spence, [that] fought with Shawn Porter, it was not the same guy [that] fought with Danny Garcia. … He beat Danny Garcia, but he has [started to lose] something.
“He’s not the same fighter."
Nevertheless, Salas hopes that Spence will be on top form to make for a tough contest.
“I really pray to get the best of him,” Salas claimed.
“Number one, because it will be a great show. And it’s a pay-per-view, it’s a big fight in the year. And if he’s in tip-top condition, Ugas will give him a hell of a fight."
