Tony Bellew has told the DAZN Boxing Show that anyone involved in decision to let Oscar Valdez’s fight against Robson Conceicao go ahead ‘needs locking up’.
The former cruiserweight world champion was appalled by the decision to allow the fight to continue despite Valdez failing a doping test invites an unacceptable risk to his opponent.
“I think WADA should be put in control of all the drug enforcement issues when it comes to boxing,” he began.
“I think the Athletic Commission in charge of this bout is an absolute disgrace, and I believe that it's very, very dangerous for this fight to go ahead.”
Bellew believes that the advantage that Valdez has as a result is tempting fate when it comes to the safety of the match up.
“The last thing we want to happen is Robson Conceicao gets it and that is the frightening thing that can happen.
“This is a professional boxing match and someone's got an unfair advantage. That's the top and bottom of it, plain and simple. Robson Conceicao is in danger.
“But no life has a price and this is a sport. This is not life and death. It should not be that and I don't like it. I'm just going to be straight up and tell how it is. I don't agree with any of the commission’s [decision].
"And if something does happen to Conceicao, which I sincerely hope it does not, everybody needs locking up who's involved.”
