Floyd Mayweather Jr. suggests next move for Errol Spence Jr. after loss to Terence CrawfordDAZN

Floyd Mayweather Jr. witnessed Terence Crawford’s brilliant boxing performance against Errol Spence Jr. live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last month.

After seeing Spence get battered toward a ninth-round TKO loss for his first career defeat, Mayweather has a dose of “The Truth” to send the former unified welterweight world champion and his team — namely, get out of the division.

“I want the best for Errol Spence,” Mayweather told FightHype.com during a recent sit-down interview from inside his home.

“So if I was training him or I was in his corner, I don’t think he should be fighting at 147 [pounds] at all. I don’t even think he should be fighting at 154. I think he should be fighting at 160 or 168. That’s just my honest opinion.”

Heading to the middleweight ranks would have Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) moving up two weight classes, but being closer to the natural weight that he walks around at.

The middleweight division currently touts Janibek Alimkhanuly as the WBO champion, veteran Erislandy Lara as the WBA titleholder and Spence’s friend Jermall Charlo as the WBC champ, with the IBF title currently vacant. Perhaps the latter is a window of opportunity that Spence could opt to seize.

Canelo Alvarez runs the super middleweight division as its undisputed world champion, next clashing with Jermell Charlo on September 30.

The Crawford-Spence fight contract included a rematch clause, so first Spence will have to decide whether he wants to try to avenge his loss to “Bud.”
