Floyd Mayweather has accused former opponent Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez of avoiding a fight with David Benavidez.

Mayweather and Alvarez met in September 2013 in Las Vegas in a fight which the American won via majority decision.

Since that loss, Alvarez has become a multi weight world champion including at super middleweight where he is currently the undisputed champion.

However, while Alvarez has cemented himself as one of, if not the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Mayweather claims that the Mexican is afraid of facing Benavidez in what would be a huge fight for boxing.

"We keep on saying we want to see Canelo vs Benavidez. Canelo’s a hell of a fighter, but in my personal opinion, he’s ducking Benavidez," Mayweather told FighterIQ.

"This is my personal opinion and I’m allowed to speak my mind. That’s just what it is. We want to see Benavidez – let’s make it happen.”

Alvarez is expected to return to the ring in September following a successful homecoming to Guadalajara last month where he beat John Ryder to retain his four 168lb world titles.
