Jeff Mayweather - Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s uncle - has urged Vergil Ortiz to slow down in his pursuit of a huge fight against Terence Crawford.
The unbeaten Texan was pushed to the limit by Serhii Bohachuk earlier this month as he climbed off the canvas twice to win a close points decision.
Despite enduring some struggles in the bout, Ortiz showed incredible resilience to remain undefeated and he’s eager to push on.
One name consistently mentioned is Crawford, but Mayweather thinks Ortiz should go down a different route, rather than face the recently crowned WBA champion
“I just think Crawford is much better than him. Not a little bit. Much better than both of those guys I seen tonight,” said Mayweather on his YouTube channel shortly after Ortiz vs. Bohachuk had finished.
“Get a rematch [with Bohachuk]. I think so. A rematch will help him [Vergil] too.”
