The boxing legend had plenty of praise for one particular fighter.

Floyd Mayweather has urged Rolando Romero to stay positive despite losing his WBA super lightweight title on Saturday.

Romero was defending his title against Isaac Cruz on the undercard of Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas, but the fight did not go to plan for Romero who was stopped by the Mexican in the eighth round of their contest.

While this loss will have temporarily stopped Romero from chasing big names in the immediate future, Mayweather was quick to support the fighter he promotes and praised what the 29-year-old has achieved in a short space of time.

"Hold your head up high! I’m incredibly proud of you for achieving the remarkable feat of becoming a 2-time world champion in less than 18 fights, all without any prior amateur background, and in just 14 years of total fighting experience," Mayweather wrote on Instagram

"In this journey we call life, you’ll win and you’ll lose, that’s the game. But in life, we all face losses, including myself.

"So remember, when people try to knock you down, don’t let it keep you there. Get back up, stay true to yourself, and acknowledge just how much you’ve accomplished."
