Robert Garcia may no longer train Vergil Ortiz, but that hasn’t stopped him heaping praise on his former student.
The veteran trainer knows the Texan fighter well from their time training together in California, and he expects Ortiz to send a message to the welterweight division when he faces his sternest test to date against Eimantas Stanionis.
A date is yet to be conformed for the intriguing showdown, but it appears the fight will be next for both men.
147lbs is arguably boxing’s deepest weight category and the winner of Ortiz vs. Stanionis is set to be in pole position to lead the challenge against either Terence Crawford or Errol Spence. Garcia has made it perfectly clear how he sees the fight going.
“Stanionis is a great fighter, but Vergil is just something else," said Garcia discussing the fight with ESNEWS.
"Vergil is just one of those kids that’s not only very good in boxing but mentally and physically - unstoppable, unbeatable. It’s not going to be an easy fight, but Vergil is just too strong.”
