Billy Joe Saunders has been called an ‘embarrassment’ to boxing after failing to come out for the ninth round in his defeat against Canelo Alvarez.
Alvarez won Saunders’ WBO championship when he delivered a bone-crushing uppercut in the eighth and was not allowed to get back into the ring for the ninth by his trainer Mark Tibbs.
Saunders has previously hit out at other boxers who have failed to fight until they are knocked out cold, something which led to taunts from Chris Eubank Jr and words of encouragement from Daniel Dubois.
The 31-year-old Briton has suffered fractures of his orbital bone, but that is not good enough reason to stop, argues former WBA middleweight champion Fernando Vargas.
Speaking on Instagram, Vargas said: “You're really going to do that? "Oh, my eye." Come on, vato [man], really? Unbelievable. How dare you call yourself a champion.
“You quit like a female dog. How dare you do that. You’re an embarrassment to the sport and to all men because you're not even a man. You should be embarrassed.”
He continued: 'Vatos like me are just BUILT DIFFERENT than you. Vatos that say you will 'DIE IN THE RING,' and end up quitting for a little scratch or cut in your eye.
'What are you vatos doing in the sport?'
