Abel Sanchez wants to see one fighter earn his opportunity.

David Morrell is hoping to set up a big 2024 for himself when he faces Sena Agbeko on Saturday in Minnesota.

The Cuban super-middleweight has enjoyed a stellar start to his professional career, and he’s been fast-tracked to the business end of the 168lbs division where he hopes to secure a bout with either David Benavidez or Canelo Alvarez.

Despite the impressive beginning to his pro adventure, one influential figure in boxing believes Morrell has to do more.

Abel Sanchez, one of the sport’s most renowned trainers who took Gennadiy Golovkin to the pinnacle of the sport, doesn’t think Morrell is worthy of a big fight at this moment.

“I don’t think he deserves the attention yet. He may have had a great amateur career and a lot of fights, but I don’t think he deserves the attention,” said Sanchez when speaking to Fight Hub TV.

“He’s talking a lot and calling David [Benavidez] out. I think these guys that we’re talking about did their work coming up, did their work to get to that point.”
