Liam Smith will edge Chris Eubank Jr on points when the pair clash in a vicious British grudge match this Saturday night, live on DAZN in multiple regions.
That’s the verdict of Tom Stalker, a former Olympian who obtained WBO European honours when competing as a pro. Stalker knows ‘Beefy’ very well and he’s confident that his fellow Liverpudlian can achieve victory against Eubank Jr.
The rivalry between the pair escalated at a fiery press conference earlier this week when the pair exchanged plenty of verbal unpleasantries.
Eubank Jr begins the fight a significant favourite, but with Smith perhaps possessing plenty of world level experience, Stalker insists that the former WBO world champion at 154lbs is a capable of an upset.
“I’ve changed my mind throughout the build-up but I’m going with Smith,” said Stalker, now a highly successful boxing manager guiding the careers of many fighters in his thriving stable when speaking exclusively to DAZN.
“At the very start, I thought the size of Eubank might be a bit too much for Smith to overcome. I’ve watched all the stuff from their training camps and the way Liam is approaching it is making me lean towards him.
“Even when they came together at the face off, the size difference was nowhere near what I thought it would be. It’s going to be a special fight because of the way both fighters like to fight, and if Liam starts quick, I think he sets himself up well to stay in front.”
