Gilberto Ramirez is set to feature in huge fights in 2025 after unifying the cruiserweight title, but he’s setting his sights on the biggest prize of all, and that’s a showdown with Oleksandr Usyk.

This past weekend, Ramirez produced one of the best performances of his career as he dominated Chris Billam-Smith on a huge show in Riyadh.

The bout had been expected to be a closely fought affair, but Ramirez demonstrated that he was a level above as he ended up a comfortable winner on the scorecards.

In the immediate aftermath of the fight, attention swung to another unification battle for Ramirez with Jai Opetaia a potential opponent moving forward.

Despite that fight set to decide who the world’s best cruiserweight is, Ramirez is aiming even higher and he’s focusing on a future move to heavyweight.

The Mexican star has already campaigned at three different weight classes including a world title run at 168lbs, and now he’s eager to go all the way to heavyweight with Usyk his primary target.

"If he wants, I'm more than ready and happy to fight him. Because he's one of my idols and I want to face him too. Because what he's been doing in boxing is great," said Ramirez to Sky Sports when discussing a possible contest against the Ukrainian.

"Everyone saw I'm a strong man and I'm growing," he added. "I want to be a heavyweight champion too and everything is possible. Look at Usyk, what he did and he's not bigger than me, and I think I can do it too."
