Former two-weight world champion explains how he'd defeat Daniel Dubois

Former two-weight world champion explains how he'd defeat Daniel DuboisMark Robinson / Matchroom Boxing

Lawrence Okolie says a heavyweight title showdown against Daniel Dubois would be "the ideal scenario" as he moves up from cruiserweight and bridgerweight, where he has reigned as champion in both divisions.

Okolie recently vacated the WBC bridgerweight title that he won in May, with an eye towards boxing's glamour division as the 31-year-old plans to join the big boys of the sport in the near future.

While he knows that he cannot expect to simply jump into the world title picture, Okolie does believe that he could have a quick route to a championship fight, with IBF heavyweight Dubois an intriguing potential opponent.

Should the all-British showdown happen in the near future, Okolie says he has the formula to take down Dubois.

"He’s a great fighter and is one of those generational fighters who is a great puncher and has great consistency," Okolie told Betway. "I remember training with him for a couple of years and saw him at the GB team then with Shane McGuigan and am now watching him from a distance winning great fights.

"He’s a great fighter but there are ways to beat him as we have seen in the past. The main thing is, if I am fighting Daniel then straight away what we are not having is a ‘you hit me’ and ‘I hit you’ fight especially in the first six rounds. I’ve got the experience and temperament to handle that fight but we will just take it one day at a time."
