Devin Haney appears eager to get back into the ring with Ryan Garcia, but one former world champion doesn't believe he has a chance against his major rival.
Regis Prograis knows what it takes to step into the ring with Haney after losing a wide points decision to the Californian back in 2023.
In Haney’s next fight, he seemingly lost his unbeaten record when he was dropped three times by Garcia before losing on the scorecards.
In the immediate aftermath of the fight, it was revealed that Garcia had failed a drug test, and the result was later changed to a ‘No Contest.’
Despite the controversy surrounding the result, the desire from the boxing community to see a sequel between the pair remains high.
Prograis, who is looking to rebuild his career after losing to Jack Catterall last October, knows the 140lbs division as well as anyone, and he doesn't believe Haney has any chance of gaining revenge on Garcia.
“I’m not going to say he’s shot. I don’t think that, but I don’t think he’s going to beat Ryan. Mentally, he knows he got beat,” said Prograis when speaking to YSM Sports Media .
“He dropped three times and got his ass whipped by Ryan. That’s always going to be there. No matter what they put out there, and no matter what Bill [Haney] says, that’s always going to be in the back of his mind. ‘Damn, he really beat me.’
“You can say what you want, but he still lost. Yeah, he [Ryan] was wrong. He was using something he shouldn’t have supposed to, but how much did that really count? I don’t think Devin will be able to beat Ryan, but if he fights somebody else, I don’t know.”
