Jai Opetaia is targeting a fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Opetaia fights Mairis Briedis live on DAZN PPV on May 18, as part of the undercard for Usyk’s undisputed heavyweight title fight with Tyson Fury.

On the line is the IBF welterweight championship belt, with Opetaia and Briedis both former cruiserweight champions.

Australian fighter Opetaia hopes to match some of Usyk’s achievements, unifying the cruiserweight division.

After that though, he wants to step up and fight the man himself.

"I would love to fight Usyk," Opetaia told Sky Sports . "I've watched Usyk for a long time. I was a 17-year-old kid at the Olympics in London in 2012 and he won the Olympics. I've always been in the shadows, I've always been very close and now I'm starting to roll into my prime.

"I'm not a little kid anymore. Now they know. I'm on their radar. It's a good feeling. He's always been at the top of where I was at. He's always been the No 1 seed, so to get a fight with him - I would love that."
