Paulie Malignaggi has hit out at Jermell Charlo following his lacklustre effort against Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.
Charlo had spent the build-up promising victory and had some high-profile backers within the sport, but the Texan never got going and he was comprehensively outclassed by Canelo as he lost widely on the scorecards.
The odds were always against Charlo as he was moving up two weight classes in an attempt to cause what would've been a sensational upset.
Charlo found out early the task that was awaiting him and after getting off the floor in the seventh session, Charlo was content to hear the final bell.
Malignaggi, a former two weight world champion, was not impressed with Charlo’s approach.
“Charlo hasn't made a committed effort to try to win this fight all night,” said Malignaggi when speaking on Twitter.
“He showed up for a check and is fighting like a guy more focused on not getting hurt than he is to win.”
