'Not many that come close!' - Frank Smith believes Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua fight carries international interest

'Not many that come close!' - Frank Smith believes Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua fight carries international interestMark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing

Matchroom CEO Frank Smith has played down suggestions a Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua super-bout would not interest American audiences.

With both men coming off the back of major losses to Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois respectively, the stage looks to be set for them to finally meet.

At one point, a potential unification bout between the pair would have been considered an all-time classic, but some voices stateside feel there is now limited appeal.

But Smith, whose Matchroom promotes former two-time world champion Joshua, believes that any bout would still be a massive affair for fight fans worldwide.

Beterbiev vs Bivol 2 / Dubois vs Parker

"I think the US is a massive market," Smith told The Stomping Ground. "Of course this is a British-focused fight, but both of these men have built international profiles.

"It may not be the second-biggest market for that fight, but undoubtedly, there's not many that come close.

"Two British fighters is going to be bigger on this side of the pond than in the US, but there will definitely be a lot of interest as well."

Joshua, who was stopped in the fifth round by Dubois in September, had been tipped for a rematch with his countryman, before the latter chose to face Joseph Parker.

Fury meanwhile could still pursue a trilogy fight with Usyk, but it appears that the Ukrainian has little interest in a third dance after two wins over "The Gypsy King".
