Frank Warren clashes with former Premier League star over Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou fight

Frank Warren clashes with former Premier League star over Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou fightDAZN

Following the announcement that Tyson Fury will face Francis Ngannou in October, Frank Warren, the UK promoter of Fury, has appeared on talkSPORT to defend the bout.

Criticism has been aimed at the encounter due to the lack of experience possessed by Ngannou compared to Fury, who is the unbeaten WBC world heavyweight champion.

Andy Townsend, the former Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Ireland player, labelled the fight ‘Mickey Mouse’ due to the gulf in class between the men which prompted a passionate response from Warren.

Fury has been linked to fights with Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua but will instead face the former UFC superstar.

“Where do you get Mickey Mouse?” asked Warren when responding to Townsend’s scathing assessment of the fight.

“Is Ngannou not a proper athlete? Is he not a warrior? We made an offer to Usyk. We made a big offer to do the fight here and he didn’t want to do it.

“This fella comes to fight. He’s got heart, he can punch, and I'll tell you something, if he hits Tyson on the chin, then he might do a job on Tyson. I don’t think he will as I think Tyson is too much.”
