'Sod everybody else!' - Frank Warren hits out at negotiation speculation over Tyson Fury retirement

'Sod everybody else!' - Frank Warren hits out at negotiation speculation over Tyson Fury retirementDAZN

Frank Warren has hit out at suggestions Tyson Fury's retirement is a bargaining tool to raise his purse for a prospective super-bout with Anthony Joshua later this year .

The Gypsy King has been touted to face his long-time domestic heavyweight rival for the first time in 2025 after multiple failed attempts to secure a fight over the past decade.

Fury, who suffered back-to-back defeats in his two bouts with Oleksandr Usyk last year however, abruptly announced on Monday that he was hanging up his gloves.

Now Queensberry Promotions boss Warren has pushed back against the idea that the sudden decision is a tactic to ensure he gets a bigger payday for a clash with Joshua.

"He's retired," he told talkSPORT . "A negotiating tactic? What for? He's the A-side of the card. His two fights against Usyk were close fights.

"AJ's last fight, he got absolutely poleaxed by Daniel Dubois. He's the A-side. AJ needs him. You can't have everything you want. It is what it is.

"The important thing is that he's happy. That's all that matters. Sod everybody else, as long as he's happy and his family's happy, that's what everyone should care about."

Despite Warren's statement, speculation will likely mount other whether Fury follows through on his promise, having previously walked back retirement in 2022.

Many within the industry had hoped to make a fight with Joshua this year, including His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn.

Joshua is looking for a major return to the ring following his shock fifth-round defeat to Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September, with Fury likely the biggest foe he could face.
