Gennadiy Golovkin returns to the ring this weekend.

A career changing opportunity is waiting on the horizon for Gennadiy Golovkin as he heads into his first fight in over a year this Saturday. Facing Ryota Murata in a stunning middleweight unification clash, exclusively live on DAZN, Golovkin has the chance to demonstrate he’s still one of boxing’s best fighters before emphasising the point later this year against Canelo Alvarez.

If all goes to plan over the next five weeks, Golovkin vs. Canelo 3 will become a reality in the final third of 2022 as the long-time rivals continue their outstanding feud. In 2017, ‘GGG’ was the better fighter but could only earn a draw from the three ringside judges. The following year, the Mexican improved greatly to earn a close points decision.

With Golovkin still operating at 160lbs, victory over Murata this weekend is vital before he steps up in weight to potentially face Canelo. On May 7th, the four-weight world champion returns to light-heavyweight to take on Dmitry Bivol. Although favoured to win, Canelo is facing a stern test, but the fact he could lose is not a concern to Golovkin when asked if he’s worried about the outcome.

“I wish I could give you a better answer to that question, but honestly, I don’t pay attention to what they're doing.” said Golovkin during an exclusive talk with DAZN.

“All I can do is look at what’s in front of me and that’s my fight in Japan and the chance to become a unified champion at middleweight.”
