Gennadiy Golovkin says third fight with Canelo Alvarez could happen

Gennadiy Golovkin says third fight with Canelo Alvarez could happenDAZN
Gennadiy Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez have already shared two brilliant encounters.

Gennadiy Golovkin has not given up on renewing his superb rivalry with Canelo Alvarez.

Many thought the outstanding Kazakh beat Canelo in their first meeting back in 2017 but the Mexican rallied brilliantly the following year to squeeze past Golovkin by the narrowest of margins.

With the pair consistently linked die to the closeness and competitiveness of their series, speculation about a third fight is never too far away.

For the time being, ‘GGG’ must focus on a December meeting with Ryota Murata in Japan while Canelo is looking at cruiserweight battle with Junior Makabu. However, Golovkin says a trilogy meeting is a realistic prospect.

"This fight is possible, theoretically nothing has changed,” said Golovkin when speaking to Sky Sports

"There are certain questions which have been posed. They are still open, they remain unanswered. We have been discussing it but haven't moved towards this fight for quite some time.

"I don't want to entertain moving to a different division unless there is an offer on the table. Imagine if I moved to 175lbs, the number of people calling me out will increase by 30 per cent.

"The army of fighters who self-promote themselves by using my name would only increase in number."
