Boxing fans are awaiting what lies in store for an exciting lightweight division in 2022.
George Kambosos Jr.'s next title defence, the return of Ryan Garcia and the threat of Gervonta 'Tank' Davis have made the 135lb division one of interest.
Davis is a fighter who generates excitement whenever he enters the ring, his devastating knockouts which have made up 24 of his 26 wins have often gone viral and made him one of the sport's most exciting names.
One name which has been mentioned as potential opponent for Davis in his next fight is the former world lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Speaking to ES News, Davis' trainer Calvin Ford said he'd welcome a clash with the Ukrainian.
"We waitin’ on that fight, you know what I’m sayin’?” Ford stated.
“We waitin’ on that fight. Like I said, it's gonna be a chess match. It’s gonna be a chess match.”
Lomachenko has become the frontrunner to face Kambosos Jr. in Australia later this year, but if the fight fails to get made, Ford will be happy for Davis to step up and participate in what he called a 'mega fight'.
"I don’t know if Loma gonna take the chances that he takes [with other fighters as he does] with Tank, but that’s like a mega fight to tell you the truth,” Ford said.
"I think ’22 is going to be a real interesting year for all of them to tell you the truth because they gotta fight each other. They gotta fight each other."
