Devin Haney or George Kambosos Jr? DAZN asks Sulaiman: Who is the real WBC lightweight champion?DAZN
The WBC president spoke exclusively to The DAZN Boxing Show about the current state of the lightweight division.

Who is the real WBC lightweight champion, George Kambosos Jr. who holds the WBC's franchise title after beating Teofimo Lopez last November, or Devin Haney who holds the 'regular' version of the green and gold 135lb belt.

When this question was posed to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman on The DAZN Boxing Show, he didn't commit to an answer, but instead stated that he is only interested in making great fights for the fans.

"I think it’s nonsense," Sulaiman said when asked about disputes between fans as to who is the 'real' WBC lightweight champion.

"People want to see great fights and having this confusion making people angry, I understand people see and view things differently. I completely respect that.

"The franchise designation goes to the facts, it has led to Teofimo vs. Lomachenko, Lomachenko against Kambosos. It has led to Ryan Garcia being active, Devin Haney against a great champion Linares, then JoJo Diaz.

"I’m very happy with the activity, very proud to see a great tournament unfolding and there’s so many great fights that can happen whether it’s Kambosos and Haney, Ryan Garcia, Lomachenko, we don’t know about Teofimo Lopez, there’s so much talent."

Both Haney and Kambosos have been going back and forth on social media over recent days about staging an undisputed title fight some point this year in either Australia or America.

If a clash between these two fighters does indeed take place, it'll be one welcomed by boxing fans across the world who will be glad to see just one champion in a specific weight division.
