Has Canelo Alvarez’s decision win over Gennadiy Golovkin boosted his position on the DAZN Pound for Pound list? The answer is no.

As impressive as the Mexican icon was against his brilliant rival, the victory is not enough to elevate Canelo above Naoya Inoue, Terence Crawford, or Oleksandr Usyk.

Canelo was top of the DAZN rankings before his sensational loss to Dmitry Bivol earlier this year. That result moved him down the pecking order and also allowed Bivol to enter the top ten for the first time.

Due to Oleksandr Usyk’s incredible run at cruiserweight and the division above, it was a straightforward decision for the current unified heavyweight champion to be number one.

Discussions regarding Canelo’s placing were held immediately after the Golovkin success, but it was decided that his position remains the same.

Canelo has made it clear that he would like to gain revenge over Bivol, and if that happens, it could see Canelo take a leap and finally get close to the position he relinquished back in May.
