Hughie Fury was left deeply unimpressed by Evander Holyfield’s fight with Vitor Belfort last week.
The 27-year-old cousin of WBC champion Tyson Fury is set for his first fight of 2021 when he takes on German fighter Christian Hammer on October 16.
That marks 10 months out of the ring, which is nothing compared to more than a decade that Holyfield had been retired. Belfort needed less than a round to comprehensively defeat the 58-year-old former heavyweight world champion, despite Holyfield claiming the fight was stopped too early.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Fury said: "I didn't really agree with the fight to be fair.
"I didn't even watch it. That sort of thing just isn't for me.
"It wasn't even an exhibition, it was a proper fight, and Holyfield is a legend as well.
"So for it to happen in the way that it did, it's not good for the sport, is it?"
The former British champion did not believe the fight should have gone ahead at all.
"It seems like it's a circus act, isn't it, pulling out all these greats and that," he explained.
"They're coming back, making these big fights, but at the end of the day it shouldn't have been sanctioned at all.
"He's old, Evander Holyfield, he's a legend, and he shouldn't have been allowed to fight."
