The DAZN Boxing Show has discussed whether Alycia Baumgardner should take on Amanda Serrano in the near future.
Baumgardner defeated Christina Linardatou at the weekend, avenging a defeat earlier in her career, and now has to decide what next.
For the American, she will likely have to wait for Katie Taylor’s rematch with Chantelle Cameron before either of those fighters are back in play, meaning Serrano - herself in the frame for her own second tilt at Taylor - could be the woman to take on the challenge.
Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Barak Bess discussed Baumgardner’s performance, saying: “I think Alyicia Baumgardner had a certain level of respect to her because she did lose to her, she did have a really tough fight with her, but that was like a year into her career.
“Even though she had that level of respect, there was a level of confidence she had because she was so confident having had these new trainers, and now working with Tony Harrison.
“I think she’s totally confident in the skills that she has, the performances she had already put in the bank. And she showed us, Linardatou is a machine, she keeps coming, but Alycia was conditioned, her jab was on point.”
Discussing Serrano, Akin Reyes added: “She’s calling out Amanda Serrano, who is arguably the pound-for-pound hardest puncher in the sport of boxing, from a southpaw stance.
“It’s going to be a different type of fight but I think this has a recipe to be an amazing fight in times of styles.”
Bess concurred, saying: “100%, and the thing about Amanda is she’ll fight anybody and she’ll fight in any weight class, probably at 154lbs, but the thing is I think Alyicia reminds me of Boots Ennis - whereas she’s way above the level he’s accomplished - but she’s that young 29-year-old who’s beating everyone, looking spectacular, and there are still big older names she wants, like Katie Taylor.
