Canelo Alvarez’ harsh assessment of Ryan Garcia was a key talking point on the latest episode of The DAZN Boxing Show.
The Mexican icon made comments to Complex that his stablemate wasn’t dedicated enough and that he needs to spend more time in the gym.
Canelo, currently preparing for a November 6th meeting with Caleb Plant, has enjoyed an active 2021. Garcia, on the other hand, has only fought once, a January stoppage over Luke Campbell that was intended to be a platform to push on amongst the elite in the lightweight division.
However, Ak, the co-host of The DAZN Boxing Show, believes that the 12st ruler could be trying to motivate the young fighter.
“It depends on what type of person you are. You can take it as motivation,” said Ak when discussing the situation with fellow presenter Barak.
“[Canelo] was asked a question, and at that particular moment, he didn't know how to divert. He just had to spill his truth to whoever was asking him the question.
“I just think it depends on how Ryan takes it. He can take it as motivation. Maybe you can take offense to it and tell Canelo on the side, ‘Canelo, my man, you could have pulled me to the side and said it in private.’ Let's turn it into something positive. Maybe it motivates Ryan Garcia.”
