The DAZN Boxing Show discussed whether Terence Crawford or Errol Spence Jr. is the best American boxer right now.
Marking the 4th July, Tony Bellew and Ade Oladipo discussed the top five boxers from the US but narrowed in on the real discussion - number one and two.
Bellew immediately plumped for the WBO champion at 147lbs, 34-year-old Crawford. The 38-0 man last fought in November when he retired Shawn Porter, and has been touted to fight Spence in the near future.
“Number one has got to be Terence Crawford,” he claimed. “Going through the weight divisions and getting set to fight the number one welterweight in the world. Is he the best welterweight in the world? I think they pick themselves, one and two. I’ll say Terence Crawford.”
Oladipo agreed, but paid tribute to 32-year-old Spence who claimed the WBA belt when he fought Yordenis Ugas earlier this year after recovering from eye surgery and a serious car crash years earlier.
“I’m with you by the way,” he said. “Terence Crawford, three-weight world champion. He’s trying to become a four-weight world champion, he’s got to be number one. And Errol Spence, who’s got three of the belts, number two. Errol Spence, fantastic, we remember him coming here, beating Kell Brook.
“What’s happened outside too, coming back beating Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, Yordenis Ugas, Mikey Garcia, still unbeaten. I think he deserves to be number two.”
