Michael Zerafa could be set to earn himself the biggest opportunity of his career when he faces Gennadiy Golovkin for the world middleweight crown in 2023.

Golovkin is still the number one fighter at 160lbs despite his recent loss to Canelo Alvarez at super-middleweight, and it appears that his next defence could come in Australia.

Zerafa, perhaps best known for battles with Kell Brook and Jeff Horn, has his sights firmly set on world title honours next year.

Discussions are underway for a potential meeting with Golovkin, and although he’s set to see action against Danilo Creati later this month, Zerafa is already thinking about the Kazakh threat he could face in the near future.

“That fight will be bigger than even Anthony Mundine versus Danny Green,” said Zerafa when speaking to Fox Sports Australia regarding a possible bout with Golovkin

“While Triple G and his team have verbally agreed to fight me, and to fight me in Australia, it’s now been seven months since I dismantled Issaac Hardman.

“Since 2020, I’ve only fought seven rounds. I’ve knocked out everyone I fought. So this is about getting myself back in the ring, and back on the big stage.”
