The Australian has big plans for the future.

Jai Opetaia is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to chasing the biggest fights in boxing.

The IBF cruiserweight champion makes a defence of his title on October 12 live on DAZN PAY-Per-View, when he faces Jack Massey on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol.

This upcoming clash with Massey will be Opetaia's third appearance in Riyadh after two previous wins in the Saudi Arabian city, and he is hoping a victory over his British rival will be the springboard for becoming an undisputed champion at 200lbs.

Opetaia vs. Massey fight card

  • Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol
  • Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Kamil Szeremeta
  • Fabio Wardley vs. Frazer Clarke
  • Jai Opetaia vs. Jack Massey
  • Ben Whittaker vs. Liam Cameron
  • Skye Nicolson vs. Raven Chapman
  • Mohammaed Alakel vs. Jesus Gonzalez

"We want to be the undisputed cruiserweight champion," said Opetaia.

"We want to collect the belts and then we want to move up and collect more belts either the bridgerweight or the heavyweight.

"A three-division world champion sounds good."

By becoming an undisputed champion at cruiserweight, Opetaia would be replicating the achievements of Oleksandr Usyk who has also been an undisputed champion at heavyweight after beating Tyson Fury back in May.

There is no surprise then that the Ukrainian is on the Australian's radar who claimed that a meeting with Usyk is edging ever closer.

"I would love to fight Usyk one day. It's a fight that I'll definitely be chasing," Opetaia continued.

"I've been around Usyk for a long time. We were both at the same Olympic Games [in 2012]. I was only young.

"I've always been close. I've always been in the shadows. I feel like my opportunity's getting closer and closer to being in there against him."

While Usyk may be on Opetaia's radar, the current unified heavyweight champion has more pressing matters to focus on, most notably a rematch with Fury where he will look to replicate his win earlier this year in Riyadh on December 21.
