He wants to add to his IBF strap.

IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia is keen to fight Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez in a unification bout.

Opetaia fought recently against Mairis Breidis as he regained the vacant title, having beaten the fighter once already in July 2022.

Opetaia gave his opponent credit, telling BoxingScene : “I knew he was going to be a hard fight. I honestly believe he’s still one of the best cruiserweights in the division.

“I personally think he beats anyone else with the belts. I knew we were in for a big fight, but I wasn’t expecting that sort of version of Briedis.

“I was sort of expecting him to come out more aggressive, but he fought cagey. He wasn’t giving me much to work off. It was good. It was learning.”

Asked about the possibility of fighting WBO champion Ramirez, he replied: “For sure. We definitely want that unification fight. It doesn’t matter what belt, we just want another belt.

“I’m good to go. We’ve just got to maintain this nose, but I’m sweet. I’m good to go. I want to be back.”
