Jake Paul and Tommy Fury set up stateside clash

The celebrity curiosities could now meet before the end of the year.

Tommy Fury set up a potential clash with Jake Paul as he defeated Anthony Taylor on the YouTuber’s undercard.

Paul was fighting Tyron Woodley, another former MMA fighter, and in his toughest test yet came away winning on split decision.

Fury’s four-rounder with Taylor was scored 40-36 in Tyson Fury’s brother’s favour, meaning the pair carry into their next fight, at least, unbeaten records.

The two younger siblings have been talking up a match-up for the past few months, presumably because they know their respective fanbases could take them to their biggest respective paydays yet, and because neither of them pose a credible boxing threat compared to other fighters in the mix. After neither of them set the world alight on Sunday night, there is not necessarily the momentum to set up a deal imminently, as they both suggested.

Taylor was always on the back foot for his fight with Fury, in part because of his lack of experience, but he was also dwarfed by his opponent. However, the 22-year-old light heavyweight was unable to find the power for a knockout blow.

The Briton is now unbeaten in seven fights and has one fight left on his two-event deal in America. This fight will have served to introduce him to a US opponent, and a defeat would probably have cost him his shot against Paul. It is now set up for Paul’s fifth career fight and Fury’s eighth for the pair to headline another huge pay-per-view before the rest of the world loses interest.
