'Surviving in the ring!' - Jake Paul weighs in on Mike Tyson's performance after victory

'Surviving in the ring!' - Jake Paul weighs in on Mike Tyson's performance after victoryDAZN

Jake Paul admitted that he did want to unnecessarily hurt Mike Tyson in their bout, describing the former heavyweight's performance as a man "just surviving in the ring".

The YouTuber-turned-boxer defeated the former two-time world champion by unanimous decision on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, prevailing in a low-wattage contest.

At 27, The Problem Child was three decades younger than The Baddest Man on the Planet, who entered the contest with a knee brace for his first professional fight since 2005.

It was a tame affair throughout where Paul appeared untroubled by Iron Mike, and speaking afterwards, he suggested it was difficult to bring out the 58-year-old's star power.

"You know I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn't want to hurt someone that didn't need to be hurt," he said. "I tried to give the best fight I possibly could.

"But when someone's just surviving in the ring, basically, it's hard to make it exciting. I couldn't really get him to engage me or do something cool.

"I don't care what people have to say. They're always going to have something to say. I could just tell that his age was showing a little bit. I have so much respect for him.

"That violence between us - after he slapped me - I wanted to be aggressive, take him down and knock him out. But that kind of went away as the rounds went on."

Tyson slapped Paul at the weigh-in before their contest earlier this week, after months of back-and-forth between the two men.

The result moves the latter's professional record to 11-1 across a dozen fights, while Tyson now holds a 50–7 (2) record.
