Jake Paul has once again expressed a desire to test himself against Canelo Alvarez. The novice boxer, whose popularity comes from his YouTube background, has managed to stay unbeaten during his short career with his most notable win coming against former UFC star, Tyron Woodley.
Despite careful matchmaking accompanying his rise, Paul was prepared to fight Tommy Fury last year before the younger brother of Tyson was forced to pull out due to injury. Paul has indicated that he won’t reschedule that bout and is looking elsewhere for an opponent, but his long-term vision sees him pitting himself against the sport’s best fighter.
“I don’t know if you're serious about Canelo Alvarez,” said Eddie Hearn to Paul when both appeared on Talksport to publicise April’s incredible showdown that sees Katie Taylor face Amanda Serrano. Paul, ambitious as ever, made it clear to Hearn that he wants to face the Mexican.
“I’m being dead serious. That I can contend with him, three years from now,” replied Paul when faced with Hearn’s comment. "Walk away with $50m-$75m. I’ve seen guys go in there against him, and I say it all the time, the one guy recently goes three rounds and quits in the corner and doesn’t throw a punch. I have way more heart than that guy. I’m way more athletic than that guy.”
